Apsara Boutique

I am an artist, born in Vancouver, I grew up in the Fraser Valley and in December of 2009 my husband and I relocated to the Roberts Creek on the Sunshine Coast of B.C. But after a few years of trying to settle into the coast we decided that the relaxed pace of the coast would be something we would come back to later in our lives and we are now re settled in Vancouver B.C. I am a painter, seamstress and costume designer. I have always been an artist. I began drawing at a very young age and started painting in my teens. I have a fascination with faces and I spent a few years throughout my twenties discovering my talents by drawing portraits of compelling people. I developed my skills with patience and a commitment of regular practice. This applies to my drawing and painting as well as my sewing and continues to be an on going process that gives me a great joy. Portraiture remains a side project for me as I have branched from 2 dimensional art into 3 dimensional art with my exploration in costume design. A part of what brings me joy is creating for others and helping people bring an idea to fruition, as a result I greatly enjoy creating custom work. As an expression of my costume design I enjoy taking old garments, fabric new and used, buttons, grommits and leather off cuts from the industry and making something that has never been seen before. I take my cues from the world around me, most notably the natural world. Its complex organic shapes and fractilian nature inspire me a great deal. A big part of my philosophy as a human and an artist is to create things that are as biodegradable as possible. There is so much in the world that can be re used and up cycled into other things and I enjoy the challenge of taking an old garment and creating something entirely new from it. I hope that you enjoy what you see and if you don't see what you are looking for please ask, I am happy to help create something unique just for you.
